A Letter from Andrea Jaeger
I am excited to introduce you to a world where Nelson Mandela, Cindy Crawford, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Mariah Carey, George Clooney, Kevin Costner, NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the late Paul Newman and Ted Forstmann, John McEnroe, Andre Agassi, Britney Spears, Colin Powell, Maria Sharapova and many other notables have entered.
It is the Little Star Foundation world, where we have joined efforts to make a difference in the lives of children with cancer and children in need. My name is Andrea Jaeger. I was a professional tennis player at the age of 14. At the age of 16 I was the number two-ranked tennis player in the world. I used my professional tennis earnings to start a childrens' foundation that eases the pain and suffering of others. For the past 26 years I have devoted my life to making our world a better place for children. Children like Lauren.
My birthday is on June 4th.
Remember when as a kid birthdays would bring a great sense of wonder, excitement and celebration? I hope birthdays and all days for that matter bring a sense of wonder, excitement and celebration to you.
Birthdays especially, I reflect on Lauren and her many talks with me. Lauren had her head stapled together from numerous brain tumor surgeries. During her tennis, horseback and white water rafting outings, talent show and numerous other activities Lauren's laughter and joy was evident. One particular conversation when Lauren was at home she told me, "Today I am picking out my music, clothes and make up." It wasn't for her school dance, graduation or other event. It was for her funeral service. Lauren's last words to me were, "I don't have millions of dollars to give you or time to raise money, but somehow I will help. You have to keep helping us kids." At Lauren's funeral service there was a request in lieu of flowers for people to donate to my foundation. That request came from Lauren. She was 14 years old.
The KFC commercial on Little Star's website shows what I was doing at age 14. I was a kid playing on the professional tennis circuit. Lauren at 14 years old was picking out her music, clothes and make up for her funeral service. Every day, birthdays included, I think of Lauren and how I can help other children. Throughout Little Star's work, website pictures and videos you will see children enjoying life through their voice, words and smiles even though they are unsure whether they will make it to their next birthday.
My birthday wish every year, and daily hope and action, are for donations to come in for Little Star Foundation so programs can continue helping children with cancer and children in need. Share Lauren's story and Little Star Foundation's work with everyone you know. Lauren, the children, Little Star Foundation and I invite you and people all around the world to help in whatever way that brings that sense of wonder, excitement and celebration.
I hope you join Little Star's supporters and me. Let's make a difference together.
Thank you and Sincerely,
Andrea Jaeger,
President of Little Star Foundation and life long committed to making the world a better and brighter place for children.
The Calling
No one knows when it will come, that call to be better than you are, to impact someone’s life other than your own, to live through and for someone besides your self.
Andrea Jaeger received that call as a teenager. To this day she knows that she felt it, felt it pushing her to commit to the helping of others. The call had more implications than just to help; it said, “Protect and nurture the future.” Andrea answered that call, and concentrated the lens of her passion on children.
Today the world is in the midst of great change. Businesses are surrounded by opportunity and uncertainty. People are both frustrated and angry by a world that was filled with possibility that is now redefining itself as it passes through uncertainty to a brighter future. Change is tough, always has been, always will be. Some of us watch it happen; some of us make it happen.
Little Star Foundation has supported and nurtured children with cancer and children in need for 26 years, the first 4 years conducted in extensive research programs. Thousands upon thousands of children know what it means to experience the programs, hope and love of Little Star. They attest to what it has meant to them. Andrea and Little Star Foundation needs your support; the children need you.
You may ask, “What makes Little Star Foundation different from other organizations that ask for your support?” It has proven success. It is not a short-term fix for these children; it is a longer-term commitment. Relationships are established. Its guiding force is Andrea. She has committed her money and her life to these kids; she asks you to join her in this commitment and she is in this for the long term, not just as a fundraiser. You become a partner with her in support of children and their possibilities.
It has been said that educating children is a high calling. Allowing them to be educated is even more important. What higher calling do we have than to make that possible? We are asking for your money and support to save their lives. Do it for the children; do it for you; do it to answer a higher calling. Join Andrea and make Little Star Foundation shine brighter than it ever has. You will never look to the heavens again in the same way.
